Home / About Us
Michelle is a PACFA registered clinical counsellor and psychotherapist with almost 30 years’ experience in the helping professions. Beginning at just 19 years of age as a disability support worker whilst studying psychology at university, Michelle has always had a caring and compassionate nature. Her career has taken her around the world, having worked in youth homelessness and addiction services in Glasgow and Edinburgh, before returning home to continue this work in Sydney. Michelle brings extensive experience in case-management and counselling roles for both government and non-government agencies in the areas of child protection, school counselling, youth justice and child and family services. Most recently Michelle has specialised in working with parents from a child and family centred approach. Since becoming a parent herself, working with parents has become her main area of practice and interest. Michelle loves to support parents working through complexity from their own childhoods, with their kids, partners, families and with systems. She understands that this can be messy and progress often looks non-linear. Michelle believes that the right support at the right time can make a huge difference in creating connection, breaking cycles and improving mental health for all people.
Michelle is also passionate about working with people using “bottom-up” somatic approaches, having trained as a yoga, meditation and mindfulness teacher 15 years ago. Michelle seamlessly combines breath work, grounding, mindfulness and movement with more traditional “top-down” therapeutic approaches, depending on people’s needs. Michelle practices the same approaches she shares and has her own regular yoga and mindfulness practice, which began two decades ago as a form of self-care when working with “at risk” youth. When not working, you’ll find Michelle riding her bike with her family along the Greenway in Sydney’s inner-west, ocean swimming, drinking coffee while connecting with friends, cooking Turkish food, listening to Australian music and binge watching her favourite shows.
I’ve edited the text for this section. Please replace with below. Don’t put it through AI editing again as I’ve already done this and corrected the funny things it does!
Inside Out Counselling and Consulting is led by Michelle Ormsby, a PACFA Registered Clinical Counsellor and Psychotherapist specialising in parenting, anxiety, burnout, and ADHD support (leave this in bold).
Our Story:
Michelle brings 20 years of experience across government and non-government agencies in child protection, schools, youth justice, and family services. Her counselling approach is trauma-informed, neuro-affirming, and relational—shaped by both her professional work and lived experience as a parent and late-diagnosed ADHD’er.
Michelle’s career began at 19 as a disability support worker while studying psychology. Her work has taken her around the world, including roles in youth and adult homelessness services in Glasgow and Edinburgh. As a former school counsellor and qualified yoga and meditation teacher, Michelle integrates child development, attachment theory, mindfulness, and somatic tools to help individuals and families strengthen relationships, build emotional regulation, and find more ease in everyday life.
Michelle practices what she shares. Her own yoga and mindfulness practice began two decades ago as a form of self-care. When not working, you’ll find her riding her bike, ocean swimming, chatting over coffee, and enjoying music and art. Let’s use this photo on the last “contact page”. Please note it’s not the same as the one you included previously. The one below is an edited and better photo! Same with the one of me on the couch, I have pasted the edited better photo into this document.

The young people (16+) we work with are usually navigating neuro-divergence, school-related challenges, and anxiety.
At InsideOut Counselling, we start from the belief that people are the experts in their own lives. We meet you where you are, taking a person-centred, neuro-affirming, and trauma-informed approach, working from the InsideOut.
We create a safe, welcoming space for healing.
Change and healing happen through relationship.
We recognise your strengths even in the face of challenges or diagnoses, without toxic positivity.
We acknowledge the challenges of living with disability, divergent identities, or minority experiences, in systems not designed for many brains, bodies, and lived realities.
We recognise that the therapeutic relationship and “being a match” is the most important and powerful tool for change in therapy.
After establishing safety, rapport, and a collaborative therapeutic relationship with clear goals, we draw on evidence-based counselling approaches including:
While these are our main approaches, we have training in several other modalities and may integrate these where appropriate.
